From the desk of Amanda
A challenge I’m currently facing within our Brisbane team is building cohesion and improving team morale. I recognize that many of you may feel unheard, undervalued, or unsupported, and I want to address this head-on.
Disability Support is a unique vocation, and at the heart of our mission are the caring individuals who make up our team of 42 Brisbane -Based Support Workers. However, it’s challenging to foster connections when many of us have not had the chance to meet each other in person. Coordinating schedules for all 42 of you is a bit like herding cats—adorable but not particularly productive! (Luckily, I have a soft spot for cats!)
To combat this, I will be inviting small groups of 4 to 6 people to spend some time with me. We’ll engage in team-building activities, get to know one another, and establish a foundation for collaboration and growth.
So, why is teamwork so important? Each of us brings unique strengths and skills to the table. When we work together, we create opportunities to learn from one another, making us more adept at tackling new challenges. Teamwork fosters personal growth, increases job satisfaction, reduces stress, and makes heavy workloads more manageable. Knowing you have the support of your colleagues makes work easier, safer, and more enjoyable. Ultimately, we all want to excel in our roles and make a meaningful difference.
As your manager, I want everyone to know that my door is always open. I genuinely care about each of you and want to hear about your weekend adventures, see pictures of your pets, or learn about new hobbies or skills you’re developing. I’m even happy to taste that delicious banana bread you baked!
Juggling the needs of 54 staff, 70 families, NDIS, allied health practitioners, and support coordinators is no small feat, but I’m fortunate to have a fantastic support team: Dillon, Apple, Toni and Cathy (and Rob, Mon, Mel, and Brendan). Together, we can strengthen our team and enhance our collective experience.
I look forward to working with each of you to build a more cohesive and supportive environment.
Amanda
@The Castle
School holidays is a great time with our participants, we get opportunities to enrich and help in different ways. @The Castle, we've been focussing on outings as well as our usual sensory activities cooking and laughing and smiling together.
Out with the Angels
We went bowling, dined out, line danced, gone to the movies, had adventures at Mt. Coo-tha and out in the wild. Our last weeks have been a whirlwind of activities, filled with smiles and positive interactions! :)
